José Al
Specialist in trauma-sensitive care We are proud of our collaboration with José Al, an expert in trauma processing and its impact on the body and oral health. José is known, among other things, as the author of *Het bevuilde nest*, an impressive book in which she shows how a stressful childhood, where safety is lacking with the parents, can leave traces in the body. Such traces can include rapid breathing, a tense jaw, and a stiff posture. Not as a primary fear of dental care, but as signals of a dysregulated nervous system.
José’s work and insights help us understand why some people struggle with dental treatments, complaints that often have no medical cause, but are ultimately a body language from the past. She demonstrates that the body remembers what the mind sometimes must forget in order to continue living. This makes her vision and approach particularly valuable for our field.
At the Dutch Dental Education Center, we want to contribute as ambassadors to trauma-sensitive care. Care that not only restores teeth and prosthetics, but also rebuilds the confidence to dare to smile fully again. José Al inspires us and our colleagues to look beyond the dental care protocol and truly pay attention to what a client needs to feel safe.
We greatly value our collaboration with José Al; her knowledge, dedication, and vision help us provide care that is not only technically proficient but also human and healing.
